Longtown P.S. Outdoor Adventure Club – Autumn Term 22/23

Outdoor Adventure Club will be running for pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 on specified Fridays in the Autumn term. New members are welcome.
Please note timings for this club vary according to the planned activity and venue. A draft programme is below. The first club session will be on Friday 16th September.
Parents should collect their children from the Courtyard of Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre (through passageway from the car park) not the school

The club is run by Mike Fawcett and Alistair Morriss , both working as volunteers. All the activities are run in accordance with the centre’s Risk Management procedures and Adventurous Activities Licence. Although there is no charge for instruction, a charge of £8.50 per session is made towards the costs of transport and / or equipment (it is also possible to make an additional voluntary contribution of £2 per session towards the Trust’s work with disadvantaged children).
Our Bursary fund is available if you would like to apply for financial assistance of up to 30% of this fee – if so, please complete and return the bursary application form here and email it to: rebecca@longtownoutdoorlearning.co.uk
Please note that the weather in the local hills can be very changeable and kit list items are mandatory. Provided it is safe to drive, the club will go ahead whatever the weather although a substitute activity or venue may be used.
We will meet children at school at 3 pm and the activity will run until the time specified on the programme. Children should be collected from the car park or courtyard of Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre NB. not the school. Please note the varying session end times above
To get the most out of the club children should commit themselves to the club and aim to attend all the planned sessions.
Kit List for Hill Adventure
- Warm trousers e.g. tracksuit bottoms (not jeans)
- T-shirt / Long sleeved top
- Warm fleece / Hoody and a spare
- A waterproof jacket
- Waterproof over-trousers (These can be provided if you don’t have them)
- Hat and gloves
- Torch with spare batteries
- Walking boots (These can be provided if you don’t have them)
- Comfortable socks
- A packed tea
- Bottle of water
- Any medication e.g. asthma inhaler
- Small rucksack (a larger school bag is ideal)
