Apprentice Outdoor Instructor

This is an opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications and to develop professional skills as an Outdoor Instructor, whilst earning a wage. This is a full time post. Progression opportunities are available subject to aptitude, skills, qualifications and experience.
We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice instructor to join our young, dynamic team.
Day to Day Duties:
- Assisting with the delivery of high quality sessions of residential and non-residential outdoor learning.
- Supervising small groups of children / young people in a residential setting.
- Assisting to clean and maintain activity equipment and facilities used by the client groups to ensure that the highest standards of Health and Safety are achieved.
Skills and Qualifications:
knowledge and experience of working with children and young people, some personal experience in outdoor activities – Desirable
a passion for personal development through outdoor activities – Essential
5 GCSE’s (A* – C / 4 – 9) including Maths and English
Personal Skills Awards in outdoor activities e.g. BCU star awards, NICAS, D of E, Scouts etc – Desirable
Maths and English Level 1 – Essential
Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre has introduced new posts for outdoor activity instructors. Successful candidates who complete their apprenticeship will be eligible to apply for these new roles or other comparable roles at other centres.
The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of high quality social and personal development through outdoor adventure. Applicants must have some personal experience of Outdoor and Adventurous activities and be keen to develop personal skills and leadership skills in a range of outdoor activities. Good organisation, communication and ICT skills are expected and the successful candidates will need to demonstrate their initiative and resourcefulness. Apprentices will work towards a Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor apprenticeship and a range of relevant Outdoor skills and leadership awards. The apprenticeship is offered in partnership with Channel Training Limited.
Accommodation is available with this post. If you are successful and live in the local area you can opt to stay at home if you prefer but you will need to be able to transport yourself to and from the centre each day.
Outdoor Learning Tutor
Contract term – Permanent, commencing 6th September 2021
Salary: £18,169 – £28,735 (pro rata) (Part time, 0.5 FTE).

This is an exciting opportunity to join Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust’s team.
We are an independent charity that runs a 70-bed residential centre and seasonal campsite in the beautiful Herefordshire village of Longtown on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We have excellent facilities set in 16 acres of private grounds and are located between the eastern edge of the Black Mountains and the River Monnow.
The centre runs both day and residential courses in multiple locations throughout the national park, in Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and further afield (including the Wye Valley and Gower AONBs). The successful candidate will be expected to be act as one of our Course Directors, leading programmes of Outdoor Learning whether they are based on-site at the centre, in school grounds or at remote locations in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The centre is run by a small, energetic team. As well as having the qualifications and leadership skills required to run a broad range of adventure activities, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent teamwork and communications skills, initiative, independence and a flexible work ethic.
The post on offer is a 0.5 FTE (975 annualised hours) with significant flexibility on agreed working patterns and hours.
